India Advances, Pakistan Faces Weather Disruptions.
India leads sesame sowing for the 2024 Kharif season with 447,000 hectares planted by 14 July, well ahead of last year's 311,000 hectares. Despite this progress, weak global demand keeps prices stable to slightly lower, with offers focused on 99.98% hulled seeds.
In Pakistan, heavy rains in Punjab from 9–15 July have flooded key sesame-growing areas during the sowing and early growth phase. Waterlogging, poor drainage, and continued downpours may delay sowing, reduce germination, and impact yields.
Meanwhile, Tanzania projects 250,000 tonnes via auction, while Mozambique has delivered 70,000 tonnes, with total production expected to reach 100,000 tonnes.
Outlook: Ongoing weather disruptions in Pakistan could pressure local supply and merit close monitoring.
