For a long time, the outlook for the Bulgarian sunflower seed market was optimistic, there had been sufficient rainfall and the crops were developing well. Recently, however, uncertainty has spread among market players. While the crop is doing well in parts of the country, other growing regions are affected by drought and heat. Market players therefore fear that yields here could be significantly lower than hoped.
In some regions, farmers have already started harvesting and in the particularly hard-hit areas, among others in central Bulgaria, the yield is expected to be significantly lower. According to media reports, the yields so far are also significantly lower than the results communicated by the Bulgarian Ministry of Agriculture. Due to these circumstances, market players reckon that higher prices are to be expected for the time being.
