The spot market in Europe is very scarce for pecan halves because shipments have been delayed throughout the last 2 months. Especially high quality halves are barely offered at all. It is advisable to urgently cover spot needs.
In the origin countries, there are rumours that the Mexican crop has been extremely disappointing with respect to last year and current shipment numbers indicate a rather firm price trend. The Eastern American recovery will likely not be able to make up the shortfall this crop season.
On the flip side, pieces and other material is more readily available on the spot. There seems to be significant glut of brokens and pieces around the world that starts to interest the savvy product developers and buyers.
